all of life is relevant

Posted on Jan 2nd, 2007 by student of the I Ching : humility as a key to awakening student of the I Ching

"You must understand the whole of life,
not just one little part of it.
That is why you must read,
that is why you must look at the skies,
that is why you must sing and dance,
and write poems,
and suffer,
and understand,
for all that is life."

j. krishnamurti

this krishnamurti quote pointed me back to the relevance of a steady iching practice.
often we want to 'live' all of life yet become stalled at certain points of discomfort, fear..etc.  i.e. whatever prevents us from taking that next step toward a freedom we've tasted and know is there.. yet sometimes seems so far away.

the amazing thing abut the iching is that it teaches us how to navigate through these 'blocks'. naturally. there is no set formula or script. it is about fine-tuning our link to  that creative impulse within ourselves in a way that each moment we trust .. we trust we are in the flow of things.  we know it cuz we feel it. and each mment we make the next best move.

life becomes an action. a movement. a flow

to do that is to allow ourselves to face everyting and avoid nothing. it is only in facing life that we can truly live it.

we are meant to be active, engaging, aware, moving manifestations of energy and light throgh this world. ... it is our birthright .

that which prevents us (usually ourselves lol through our volition).. that too can be yielded to.

The i-ching and an integrally informed approach to life.

26. Ta Ch'u / The Taming Power of the Great

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
...Thus the superior man acquaints himself with many sayings of antiquity
And many deeds of the past,
In order to strengthen his character thereby.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
.....In the words and deeds of the past there lies hidden a treasure that men may use to strengthen and elevate their own characters.

The way to study the past is not to confine oneself to mere knowledge of history but, through application of this knowledge, to give actuality to the past.

(Wilhelm/Baynes translation..)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I spent some valuable moments this past week listening to ken wilber’s talks on kosmic consciousness (it was a 10 part cd set).

This exercise lead to a welcomed understanding of what it means to live an ‘integrally informed’ life and to meet life from that position. (I look forward to writing more about this later and integrating it into my study of the iching)

From what I’ve read/heard -- I’ve gathered.. that allowing an integrally
informed approach into one's awareness is meant to be a *position one takes
toward life; and helps in understanding there is perpetual motion, not
some end point we are all seeking to get to. (for instance one is
encouraged to ask -- is it about my enlightenment and my suffering and my
happiness or is it for the greater good – i.e. the very evolution of
consciousness.. which I am part of?).

And to do that one becomes a consciously informed human being who can
exercise body, mind, spirit, self, culture and nature. And integrate an
expanding relationship with self, others and a relationship to the world.
And also be most efficient toward all those areas of development (or always
be forging forward toward that..).

-----It amazed me that with all that material soaked into my pores.. I came upon these words in the quote above, as I was doing my I Ching reading tonight.

The thought occurred to me that the I-Ching was perhaps the edge of its time, the integrally informed model of its time.. and universal. It’s messages are so ingrained with the very workings of the kosmos that one can apply it today quite easily – because it speaks to many of the same lines of human development as well as similar structures and stages of development even if evolution has occurred over time.

It appears that the key is to be able to yield to the messages and first transform the methaphorical constructs (that at first may appear antiquated) .. into the core make-up & meaning of the hexagrams. (i.e. a common denominator that transcends time/history)

Frameworks and maps help us evolve and make sense of things that may appear different or irrelevant but actually all belong to the story.
